West or Bust Day 14

Sunday, June 14

We left mid-morning for Tuolomne Meadows.

Bye-bye Yosemite Valley

Lovely flowers line the cliffs along the road

The lady to the left of the sign is just hiking in from the valley.  She said it was hot.

Tuolomne Meadows

We had the best campsite in the campground - #A88 - right by the creek at the end of the road/loop.

The only night we had to put our foodstuffs away in a bear box.

Eating supper

Taken from the other side.  Someone's asleep in the hammock - must be Daddy

Taken from our site

I sat in the creek and caught up on some reading and letter writing.

Looking downstream

After an early supper or was it a late lunch, we drove back to the meadows and hiked around a bit.  Little did I know that a good friend would die around this time in Virginia.  A sad loss.

Since C banged her broken foot in the creek yesterday, I see she is wearing her boot today.

We climbed one of the large domes

Then DH and I hiked to Soda Springs to see what all the fuss was about. Do you see the bubbles?

The campsite in the morning

We were literally, basically on the Pacific Crest Trail.  The hikers walked right by us.

HSC means High Sierra Camp

West or Bust Day 15

Monday, June 15

Down the mountains, past the "lovely" Mono Lake, on to the hot desert (113 degrees in Needles, NV) and over to Surprise for a visit with family.

I would have swum - honest - it was just a little chilly and no showers for afterward.  I wanted to float like in the dead sea.

They said it!  If anything, THIS is the inconvenient truth.

Mt. Whitney (highest peak in the lower 48?)

Well, if this ain't a little off the track, eh?

We arrived at last - and a Grand little boy was waiting up for us! Oh what joy! (Baby was asleep)

West or Bust Continued

Oh what a wonderful time we had with family.
